TO REGISTER: Scroll down to the program descriptions at the bottom of this page and click ENROLL. This will redirect you to our registration platform. Fees are due in full upon registration. We recommend trying right at 9:00am, as programs have filled very fast in the past. Waiting lists help, so if you are on one there is hope – and potential for added sections.  Once you register you will receive confirmation, and two weeks before programs you will receive a welcome email with details.

Amy Davis is one of our most skilled and experienced naturalist educators and mentors. She works with the Land Conservancy and 4Points Adventures in Ventura among other adventure based activities. She is an avid birder and loves surfing and kayaking.

Learning through play, exploration, and discovering our natural environments makes for smarter, healthier and happier children. Every week we explore wild places around our communities and gain awareness, knowledge, self reliance and social skills. Our instructors are skilled naturalists, educators and mentors, facilitating group and independent activities with games, stories, songs and the teachable moments provided by nature.

Joel is an experienced naturalist and outdoor educator. The founder, executive director and head naturalist of Naturalist 4 You. He enjoys organizing natural and cultural history activities, playing musical instruments, foraging for food, time with family and barefooting.

  • Safe and effective fire tending techniques
  • Building or finding primitive shelters
  • Identifying and harvesting wild edible plants
  • Cooking over a campfire
  • Creating useful tools like baskets, tools, or rope

Come play with your child in local wilderness spots, learning about how to bring your child into nature with safety and also with a child’s sense of adventure and awareness. Enjoy discovering the little things that are amazing to children and all the learning that happens along the way – for everyone! Developmentally appropriate crafts and skills help develop balance, communication and social skills, motor skills and ignite our natural curiosity and joy of discovery. Time in nature is a gift for your children and yourself!

This is a parent drop-off program. We will allow one visitation day to assess a child’s fit and aid in comfort. Children growing into some independence will enjoy this opportunity to join our small 4:1 ratio child to adult groups to explore, play and connect in natural settings. There are so many opportunities for natural learning activities from watching bugs to climbing on logs, walking on rocks to finding walnuts and acorns. We wander into nature discovering all the diversity of the season, and then settle into a lovely sense of belonging and joy. Through games, stories, songs and the magical teaching moments presented by nature, your children gain awareness, knowledge and skills that last a lifetime.

Nuestros instructores bilingües son naturalistas, educadores con experiencia, que facilitan actividades con juegos, historias, canciones y momentos de enseñanza que brinda la naturaleza. Esta clase se dará en español pero con traducción al inglés cuando sea necesario.

This class will be given in Spanish but with English translation when needed.

What better way to end the day than sinking into the world of nature. Balancing school structure and tech time provides children a healthy opportunity to reflect on the day, release physical and emotional energy, and discover a world that provides joy, mystery and connection. From climbing trees and rock hoping to building shelters and following animal tracks, we are engaged every minute. Watching the clouds go by is a lesson we take seriously!

Wild Skills & Adventure Program

Discover the skills you need to feel totally at home in nature! Learn knife safety, how to identify and harvest wild edible plants, and campfire cooking. Build shelters and create fun and practical items like baskets, tools or rope. Track wildlife, learn water purification techniques and practice responding to wilderness emergency scenarios. Learn how to lead a group in the wild, and how to be part of nature: communication, interdependence, and diversity skills. Risks become adventures, danger become awareness, and fear becomes knowledge.

Your Child Will Learn:

Wild Garden Explorations (Drop-off)

Ages: 5 – 7
Days: Fridays

Times: 10:00 – 1:00
Location: Ojai Demo Garden & Creek

Fee: (11 weeks) $503.00

Nature is a wild garden, and we get a chance to discover the wild foods, as well as cultivating our own plants and wildlife. Visit the creek nearby too! Discover composting bugs, talking roots, and all the amazing mysteries and magic that are part of life on earth. Plant seeds, prepare and taste wild treats, and discover the creeks and trees that contribute to our wild gardens.  We get to explore the creeks, design the gardens, and sample the bounty!

CANCELLATION POLICY:

  • Full refund available up to two weeks before programs begin.
  • Cancellations 2 weeks or less before the start of a program will not be refunded unless we can fill the spot. If filled, you will be charged a $30 non-refundable deposit.
    • NOTE: Though we do have waiting lists, people often make other plans and we can’t always fill a spot on short notice.
  • You may change your child’s program once at no cost. After that, we will charge $5 per change.
  • If programs must be cancelled due to a verified covid-19 situation in camp or at home, or a CDC or government mandate, you will receive a prorated refund for all remaining days of camp.
  • No refunds will be offered for a change of mind or scheduling conflict. We have worked very hard to fill and staff programs, and late cancelations hugely affects our budget and sustainability. Thank you for understanding.
